Dell Park
is the vision of Stephan Blacher. Stephan, a very
successful businessman with a lifetime of owning and operating his own
business decided to enter into an area that would allow him to provide a
service and support to help recovering people get back on their feet. He
knew that his business skills
|
would assure success
and began a year long study of sober living environments. For this year
he brainstormed, talked to sober living experts and
others people who were operating sober living houses. He talked to
psychologists, psychiatrists and prominent people in the field of
addiction and relapse prevention. He developed a plan that would allow
recovering people to live in a safe and
|
secure environment that was
pleasant and comfortable, they would have a minimum of rules and
regulations and be provided the support of a caring community. They
understood the importance of planning before implementation. In 1999
he purchased a property that
was strategically located near sober
|
clubhouses, transportation and
professional practitioners. The property is located in a neighborhood
and not set apart as an
institutional setting. Stephan supervised the
complete renovation of the property wanting it to be the kind of home
that he himself would be happy residing in. Poised for a grand
opening in September of 1999 Stephan was a quickly placed in the role of
crusader and activist for the rights of recovering people when the city
of Delray denied him permission to open Dell Park. Where most other
people would have simply sold the property or changed their business
plan to exclude recovering people
|
|
Stephan decided to challenge the city
policies and zoning ordinances. This challenge came in the form of a
lawsuit against the city of Delray (The Court
Case). In July the
city of Delray and the courts gave Stephan permission to open
Dell Park. This personal commitment to his project exemplifies the
integrity and determination of Stephan to see the dream
realized. As his dream has become a reality the dreams of every
recovering person for a sober and rich life have a place to be realized.
Dell Park is an inspiration for all who hope to overcome the
overwhelming disease of addiction.
